College So Far 2020/21!

Hello everyone! How are you all doing today? As we’re all in a National Lockdown again in the UK, colleges, universities and schools have closed their doors and turned to online learning. It can be hard sometimes but I am grateful that I can continue my college course while being at home. So for today’s post, I thought I would share how my college course this year is going so far and how I am finding it. I hope you enjoy!

So just a quick debrief on my whole schooling life, I left school at the beginning of 2018 from being seriously bullied and was home educated for a while. I was in Year 9 at this point. In September 2018, I became an official Year 10 student and I was taking my GCSEs at a college on the Pre-16 GCSE course which was put in place for home schooled kids to take their GCSEs. This is one of my greatest achievements ever starting at this college. I made so many amazing friends, I achieved so well regarding my grades and overall, I was just happy. I was at college for 2 years (as a Year 10 and 11 student completing my GCSEs.) Then in September 2020, I was an official college student. I am currently studying Journalism and I am absolutely loving every second of my course!

In a year where everything is so different, my experience on this course has been just as amazing. I’m happy, I feel as though I am doing well, and I am reaching out to so many different opportunities. I’m having a great time. I was nervous with the change from Pre-16 to student to full on Post-16 student but everything is still the same. It’s different in its own little way but that doesn’t matter. I’m happy- that’s the main thing. I’m in a class of 12 which should be 24 but we do alternate weeks which I think is working really well. My classmates are great and my teachers are fab. I’ve made great friends and I am so happy where I am. I can’t wait to see what we will be doing next in terms of learning and the projects we will face next. It’s all super exciting.

So in the first term, we created a website, recorded a podcast and wrote up an article after interviewing people. I really enjoyed all of these tasks. We also started planning our own documentaries which we are starting to film this term. I am super excited about this. I really enjoyed everything I have done so far on my course. I filmed a Podcast with two of my closest friends, I wrote an article which is really close to my heart and I have been offered so many amazing opportunities! I can’t quite believe it!

We’ve started so much work since being online. At time it can be tough, but going back and revisiting topics has helped me lots. My teachers have done really well with adapting to the change and they regularly do 1 to 1 sessions to make sure we’re doing okay and they help us out when we can. The work we’ve done so far has been really interesting and I have really enjoyed it.

I hope those in college, university or school themselves are doing okay during this time. I hope you are all getting the support you need and are doing okay. We all feel the same, it’s hard for everyone. But as long as we try our best, we can achieve our goals and get through this together. I did write up a blog post sharing my Home Schooling Tips so if you are struggling with working from home at the minute, why not go and give it a read? I hope it can help in some way.

But that is all from me today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s post. If there is anything you would like to read here in the future, please let me know in the comments below. I would love to hear from you. You can also follow me on Instagram and Twitter for more updates throughout the week.

I hope you all have a great week and I will see you on Sunday for my next post. I will see you very soon!

Lots of love,

Stacey xxx
